One of the many positive aspects of traveling is the opportunity to learn something more about the history of the country that hosts us, and to be able to touch reality with historical relevance.
It’s important to learn about the social and political dynamics as it helps us to know people, to understand them, to respect them.
And so it happened in Cambodia too.

We visited the mine museum and the nearby assistance center for children injured by unexploded ordnances in Siem Reap.
We walked inside the killing fields in Battambang.
What we learned and saw in these last days, especially what concerning the period of the Civil War of the 70s, destabilized us.

It happens to meet people maimed by mines. Among all the meetings, the most “special” one is with a man without a leg, who rides on his bicycle as if nothing had happened.
Our eyes meet. An incredulous look and a true smile appears on our faces. He is surprised to see us and he greets us. The thought is shared and we raise the thumb up, as a sign of respect and esteem.
We ride silently, grateful to life ☀️🙏😊
