We arrived at our destination safe and sound! The trip lasted almost 40 hours and 1780 km, of which the last 250 towing the minivan that didn’t want to stay on. The breaks were really too few, and the opportunity to rest comfortably even the shade!
But we’re satisfied for the goal achieved!
Now a day off to recharge our batteries, apply for the visa to Mongolia and organize the next stages on the Lake Baikal!
👇 Thoughts about the ride by car 👇
•ANDREA: I realized I was not ready for this restart. Not here and not in this place so far from my comfort zone. I yearned for this trip to Irkutsk, so that we could leave behind everything that didn’t excite me about this country, and that inevitably would have repercussions on me, on us. When this journey took place, I was disconcerted, demoralized. And even further from my comfort zone. Did I expect too much ?! This made me reflect on how much, too often, we take certain situations of tranquility for granted, or we almost want them with arrogance.
We are here now. Almost at the end of this experience, and I could not enjoy a single moment. Not even while I slept.
But tomorrow is a new day.
• ELENA: It was the experience that perhaps most of all taught us how important prudence is, and how limiting prejudicious are. People on that car were so different from us, but at the same time so similar, that they were able to steal some of our best smiles. The thought was always present for those streets that I wanted to ride, for those miles that I wanted to sweat, for those woods that I wanted so much to breathe. It’s as if they stole me some of my freedom. But at the same time I’m aware and grateful for the decision taken. It rained a lot in this last 48 hours, and there were also many parts of the route that weren’t suitable for bicycles.
And tomorrow is a new day.
